| Capoeira is a little-known Brazilian martial art where practicioners engage in combat hidden in acrobatics and dancing. This art is deeply rooted in African slave culture from colonial Brazil, and utilizes a musical instrument comprised of a gourd attached to a bent stick with a wire called a "berimbau." I drew the inspiration for the Bantu Capoeira logo from the reflection of light off this gourd, and utilized fonts reminiscent of Brazil's music and carnival scene. I then applied these logos with several unique designs for a line of capoeira themed merchandise, and created brochures and print ads to increase public awareness of both the sport and the school.

| Logos are a mainstay in the modern world of business. A successful logo should be unique, it should be targeted at the proper demographic, i
t should be free of popular trends or cultural references, and it should be based on a company's personality. Technically speaking, logos should also be capable of being reduced to fit on business cards (while still easy to read and decipher) or expanded to fit on a billboard or company vehicle. Logos should be rendered in pantone, CMYK, and RGB colors for future use in print and web applications. Anything less than these specifications will damage the company brand, and require future redesign at great cost to the company.

| Ronin Design is a small firm that outsources freelance design talent to marketing and advertising companies. I based the design for the Ronin logo off the wrapped handle of a japanese sword, creating a randomized geometric pattern that would show through die cuts on the cd cover and business card to represent the ray skin used in medieval Japanese sword furniture. Collateral produced for this client includes folding die cut business cards, documents for offset printing requests, and cd lables and covers.
